A TREE HOUSE CAN GROW IN BETHLEHEM, ZONE BOARD RULES.(Local)

A Slingerlands man won the right to finish building a tree house on his property Wednesday, despite objections from a neighbor who called it an "eyesore" that threatens his right to privacy.

In an unusual case, the town zoning board of appeals concluded that a tree house - by its "nature" - is a temporary structure and therefore no zoning laws apply and a building permit is not required.

The ruling favored Dr. Jeffrey C. Rider Jr. of 23 Northwood Court who filed an appeal with the board after town Building Inspector John Flanigan ordered him to tear down the structure. Flanigan alleged the tree house violated a town …
