VIC:Let thalidomide victim have her day
The Melbourne family of a woman at the centre of a thalidomide class action has called
on the inventor of the pregnancy drug to let her have her day in court.
Victorian Supreme Court Justice DAVID BEACH dismissed a bid by German drug company
Grunenthal, which developed thalidomide and made the drug available throughout the world,
to have a class action against it heard in Germany.
The father of lead plaintiff LYNETTE ROWE, who alleges her congenital absence of arms
and legs was caused by her mother's use of thalidomide, said it's an important day for
the family.
IAN ROWE says they want to know how their daughter will be looked after once they can
no longer do it.
